This is a list of keywords and phrases that, when plugged into site search, have a decent chance of turning up one or more blackhat-SEO spam journals. Some of them are more likely than others to also turn up legit journals. Be sure to evaluate a given set of search results very carefully before deciding it's spam. There's nothing wrong with people using any of these keywords in entries: this is a list that's intended to help you find blackhat SEO journals, not a list of things that are automatically blackhat SEO if they appear in a journal.

If you find a keyword that turns up more than two or three spam journals, add it to the list. To avoid giving search engine cred to spammers, do not add URLs. Instead, add a phrase from the journal. If there's a particular URL that's being spammed with multiple keywords or phrases, and you can't find a short phrase that will reliably find them (ie, the URL is the only means of identifying that particular blackhat SEO campaign), then post about it (members-locked) to [info]dw-antispam.

Members of the anti-spam team authorized to do spam suspends should just directly suspend accounts they find through keyword searches. Other users should open a support request in the "Anti-Spam" category for an anti-spam team member to investigate and suspend.

Things are added to this list because somebody suspended a bunch of accounts spamming Dreamwidth using that keyword or keywords. Sometimes, a spam campaign gives up on DW when they realize their spam is being removed and the accounts suspended. (We like it when that happens! It's our ultimate goal!) With the exception of the "evergreens" like viagra and the like, if it's been a few months since any spam journals have turned up for a keyword or phrase, go ahead and remove it from the list so people don't waste their time with it. Some of the more weird keywords on this list are added because they appeared in a lot of spam all at once, even if they're not things that are regularly spammed.

Anyone should feel free to add keywords to this list, based on spam they see on Dreamwidth.

[1] Likely to turn up a lot of false positives; be cautious.

[2] These and other fashion-related terms, especially shoe-related ones, are going to lead you to a lot of Avengers fanfic. It's a nice break when you find it. Bless Pepper Potts and her kickass shoes.

[3] Be especially careful with this: 'application' and 'app' mean something different in Dreamwidth roleplaying, so you'll get a lot of false positives here. Still, mobile application development is enough of a blackhat SEO spam target that it's worth checking anyway.

[4] There is a completely bizarre spam campaign that posts screensful of word salad with like every fifth-to-ninth word replaced by 'cat'. Just plain 'cat' as a search term will obviously have hella false positives, but should catch new instances of those accounts. The others are to try to clear out some of the older ones. Once they taper off, take this entry off the list.
